I am humbled to announce my candidacy for re-election as OPSSU President. With over 25 years of trade union experience, I have dedicated my career to fostering inclusive environments where every voice counts. My campaign rests on results, equity, tackling precarious work, ethical decisions, transparency, succession planning, and putting people first. No false promises—just tireless integrity and action.
Results-Driven Leadership Experience:
- President, OPSSU (2023-Present)
- 1st VP, OPSSU (2019-2023)
- OPSSU bargaining teams: Support Staff (2016), Pro-Tech (2022), President (2025)
- Secured 100% of Service category demands
- Achieved full credit for all Pro-Tech hours - long considered impossible.
- Championed LOU#12 - psychologically safe workplaces; advancing psychosocial hazards training via JHSC
- 45 new permanent OPSSU positions added
- Range 5 Senior Pro-Tech positions and wages reinstated
- Negotiated first MOA for equity-designated hiring
- Introduced equity-designated OPSSU Executive position
- United allies for impactful campaigns
- Challenged a tyrannical employer, survived intimidation and continue fighting!
- Stood firm against employer reprisals following 2016 bargaining - I never backed down!
- Staff Representative since 2016 and Support Staff 2011-2016
- Active OPSEU member (10+ years), prior to coming on staff in 2011.
Equity drives my vision. Systemic barriers still divide us; I’ll keep working towards dismantling racism and ensuring a barrier-free OPSSU. By prioritizing underrepresented groups, we’ll foster belonging and strengthen our union. I’ve seen inequities erode trust— I’m committed to fair opportunities, so everyone thrives. This means prioritizing underrepresented groups and fostering a culture of belonging that strengthens our collective impact.
Precarious work hits home; I lived it as a temp with unstable contracts and short-notice extensions. No quick fix exists—illness itself is unpredictable, and protecting sick leave complicates stability. Yet, we can drive change – leveraging my negotiation experience and collective bargaining to build sustainable models that offer stability, benefits, and respect. No one deserves exploitation.
Collaborative decision-making is essential. I reject top-down rules that silence members. I’ll empower committees with input from all levels, guided by compassion. With a good heart guiding me, I’ll approach every choice with empathy, considering the human element first. Leadership means service: listening, compassion, and diverse perspectives.
Transparency will define us. Expect open communication—no hidden agendas. Regular newsletters, forums, and accountability measures will show real progress from our collective efforts.
Succession planning matters. And that’s’ why I commit to preparing for the years to come with all our leaders.
I offer no false promises because trust is earned through results, not words. If re-elected, I’ll continue to roll up my sleeves and deliver results.
